Agriculture, forestry & fishery in 10 months of 2012

As of mid-October, provinces in the North harvested 699,100 ha of winter-rice, represented 59% of the cultivated area and equaled 160.9% against the same period in 2011, of which the Red River delta gathered 320,400 ha, represented 55.9% the cultivated area and equaled 170.3% against last year’ same period. According to preliminary assessments, this year’s winter-rice productivity in the North slightly rose from 20 to 40 kilograms per ha against the same crop in 2011.

As of October 15, provinces in the South cultivated 720,600 ha of winter-rice, rose 44.8% from the same period last year, this was mainly due to increase in rice price, which encouraged farmers to extend their cultivated area.

Together with this, as of this period, the country had 2,212,600 ha of summer-autumn and autumn-winter rice, represented 83% of the cultivated area and equaled 103.1% against the same period last year. Also as of this period, provinces over the country cultivated 39,400 ha of soybean, equaling 153.3%; 20,700 ha of sweet potato, equaling 132.7%; 5,000 ha of peanut, equaling 108.7% and 80,500 ha of vegetables, equaling 134.8% from the same period last year.

As estimated, the country’s flock of pigs decreased by about 2-3%, herd of poultry by over 2% from the same period last year.

Forestry

Generally, in 10 months the country’s concentrated planted area was141,600 ha, reduced by 5.6% against the same period in 2011; dispersed planted trees reached 171 million, rose 0.3% from last year’ same period; wood production 3,927,500 m3, by 11.2%; firewood production 24.9 million Ste, by 2.3%.

Damaged area was 3,183 ha, of which burnt area were 2,088 ha; destroyed area was 1,095 ha.

Fishery

Generally, 10 months ‘estimated fishing production reached 4,836,300 tons, rose 5.2% from last year’ same period, of which farmed products reached 2,599,100 tons, rose 5.7%; caught products 2,237,200 tons, by 4.6% (sea caught products reached 2,076,500 tons, rose 5.3%.
