On Jul 2nd, in Dinh Vu Industrial Zone (Hai Phong) the ceremony for construction of the Bridgestone project of Japanese investors was held. The project was built on an area of 102.43 ha, with an investment of nearly USD 575 million.
Officially licensed from Feb 1st, 2012, the project has been started as planned and intended to become the 50th plant of Bridgestone Group in 21 countries worldwide. It is expected that when put into production in 2014 with the entire product is exported, the plant will employ about 1,900 workers.
With Bridgestone’s projects, total capital investment in Dinh Vu industrial zone has reached nearly $1.5 billion, including capital investment projects from Japan accounted for about 45%.
The trend to increase investment in Vietnam by Japanese investors has been predicted and confirmed. As reported by the Foreign Investment Department (Ministry of Planning and Investment), in the first 6 months, total capital investment of Japanese enterprises has reached $4.16 billion, accounting for 65% of total FDI in Vietnam.
Most of the large FDI projects in the last 6 months are reserved to the Japanese investors.
