Mexican firms find investment opportunities in Vietnam.

Hundreds of Mexican enterprises have joined a seminar in Merida City to seek for investment and business opportunities in Vietnam, the Voice of Vietnam Radio said. The event which has been held by the Vietnamese Embassy and the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment, and Technology (COMCE), attracted many Mexican small-and-medium-sized companies. During the workshop, import-export procedures, investment policies and other areas that are Vietnam’s strengths were introduced to participants.

Addressing the meeting, Vietnam’s trade counselor to Mexico Hoang Anh Dung briefed the country’s socio-economic achievements in the renewal process, highlighting issues related to the Foreign Investment Law and challenges and opportunities for businesses operating in Vietnam. He emphasized that two-way trade turnover between the two nations in 2011 reached more than $1 billion and kept rising in the first quarter of this year.

Although Vietnam and Mexico have set up their diplomatic ties since 1975, the latter’s investment in the Southeast Asian nation remained humble with only one project valued at $50,000 as of Feb 20.
