The opening ceremony took place on Apr 23rd in Bac Ninh and according to our source the Nokia’s new factory will produce cheap mobile devices to serve the growing markets with localized functions. Vietnam factory will be the third large on the the world, after other factories in India and China which focus on smart phone production.
Located in the area of 17 hectares, in a part of Vietnam – Singapore Industrial zone in Bac Ninh, the operation is expected to go into operation in early of 2013.
Great potential
Ms Mary McDowell, Executive Vice President of Nokia committed to workers that the new plant will have a “highly professional” working environment. Joined in Vietnam market in 1996, Nokia consider Vietnam to be the country with potential growing and many opportunities.

The decision to open a factory in Vietnam is reviewed by Reuters to be the strategic, co-determining and long-term commitment of this Finland corporation with Vietnam. The Journal commented that the plant in Vietnam will serve the objectives to meet the needs of international mobile phone and other types of handset. So far, mostly original Nokia mobile phones in Vietnam are sold through two offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
From Nov 2011, this group founded Nokia (Vietnam) LLC towards the objectives to open production units in this country. Currently, many divisions are in the process to recruit young local talents to ramp up the pre-production process.
Recently, this group has met many challenges and income loss. According to the technology page on British newspaper – The Guardian, Nokia has lost the “King” position in mobile phones area. The revenue in the first quarter of 2012 of Nokia has dropped 29% over the same period last year, down to 9.7 billion USD. In the field of multi-functions device (smartphone), Nokia lost customers for Huawei and ZTE.
