The relocation of the Saigon Port out of urban area shall be completed in the 1st quarter of 2016. In relation to the work progress report of Saigon Port Company to the Ministry of Transportation of Vietnam on the progress of the relocation, from January 2014, the port has established a legal entity to carry out the project.
In particular, to 2015, the project Saigon-HiepPhuoc Port may require an additional USD 42 mil to complete the first stage. Regarding theroute connecting Saigon Port-HiepPhuoc, it is expected to be commenced in August 2014 and completed in 14 months.
Based on this project progress, Saigon Port shall have to relocate, handover the NhaRong-Khanh Hoi Port to Vien dong pearl urban development investment limited company in the first quarter of 2016.
According to the Decision No.46/2010/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, Ho Chi Minh City shall have to relocate as much up to five ports outof the urban area before 2010. However, until present day only Saigon New Port has been relocated to Cat Lai, the rest are still in the process of relocation. The purpose of these relocations outside of the urban area of the city area is to reduce the traffic jams in the city central.
